Vision for 2022-2027
The Canary Islands, a global investment and business hub.
Strong and diversified local ecosystem.
Talent that is developed, attracted and retained.
Why the Canary Islands?
The Canary Islands bring together a combination of advantages in a single territory that very few technological ecosystems can offer. Its strategic position between Europe, Africa and America makes the archipelago a natural gateway for operating on three continents, with good air and digital connectivity and a stable political and legal environment within the European Union. Added to this is a highly competitive tax framework, with specific instruments for technological investment and a high level of public aid that facilitates the establishment and growth of high added-value projects.
But it's not just about numbers. The Canary Islands offer an ideal environment for attracting and retaining international talent: quality of life, safety, climate, services and a scientific and business community that is already working in microelectronics, photonics and advanced communications. On this basis, the CanaryChip strategy makes the archipelago a place where companies in the semiconductor sector not only come to invest, but also to stay, innovate and scale up their operations.

Integration into the Internationalisation Strategy.
-
Campaigns targeting key hubs (Washington, Brussels, Berlin, etc.).
-
Talent development and retention (vocational training, university, international programmes).
Axis II – Promoting participation in PERTE Chip
-
Support for R&D and design projects.
-
Integration into the National Semiconductor Education Network.
- Attracting factories and fabless companies to the archipelago.
Axis III – Use of EU instruments
- Take advantage of regional aid and recovery funds.
- Facilitate the ecosystem's access to Digital Europe and Horizon Europe programmes.
Axis IV – Complementary actions
-
Scholarships and talent programmes.
-
Supplement external funds with the Autonomous Community's own resources.
An ecosystem that already exists
The Public Administration of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands is working to become a benchmark for social, economic and environmental sustainability within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). With the aim of localising the United Nations 2030 Agenda, adapting the SDGs and their global goals to the reality of the Canary Islands, the regional executive presented the Canary Islands Sustainable Development Agenda 2030 (ACDS 2030) in December 2021. The ACDS 2030 sets out the specific goals for the archipelago to achieve the 17 SDGs, established through consensus among representatives of civil society, the business sector, the third sector, academia and research centres, and public administrations throughout the Canary Islands.
The development of a technological ecosystem is a key lever for overcoming the structural deficiencies of the Canary Islands' economic model.
